December and Activities

Today is December 1st, where did it come from. One minute its August 31st and now here I am getting ready for the Christmas activities. Yesterday I put up my outside lights. I had decided to buy new ones, so here I was up my ladder with hammer in hand. I was so thankful that it was a nice dry and fairly warm (for this time of the year) as one never knows what the temperature will be right now. Today, the Christmas decorations get put up inside. I've not booked any clients today, so I can do it all at my leisure. Plus write here and catch up on some movie reviews. If I'm lucky I will also have time to sort some of the paperwork in my office.
Last weekend I had the privilege of speaking at the Celebration Centre once again. The recording of the talk will be up on the site soon (trustingly - that is my webmaster's job).  Then my friend Trish and I took off in her car to West Bank to see two - yes two movies. First we watched Happy Feet 2, and as you will see by my movie review I shed some tears, then when it was over, Trish turns to me and says, want to see the Muppets, "why not" replies me, so we bought some more tickets and saw the Muppets. Then after we went and had a lovely supper (at a restaurant I had not been in before) and then off home. What a lovely Sunday.
On Tuesday night my Spiritual Prosperity and Wealth class ended. I was really happy to hear how each attendee had had some insights. Always delightful for a teacher's ears.  The class was surprised when they came into my living room, to find it looked quite different.  I had spent Monday reorganizing the living room and part of the kitchen. I had a new chesterfield delivered and on the Sunday night as I sat there I thought perhaps if I reorganized then I could create more seating. (Sometimes on the Wednesday night meditation and other gatherings I have I need more comfortable seats) and sure enough, with a bit of reorganization I was able to create two more seats. But it always takes me some time to get used to a different look and after three days, I'm getting there. Then at meditation last night, only six people came, when we have room for four more. Create the space and they will come! But as it is a drop in evening we can have eight or more easily.
This Saturday I have my Christmas Tea Party, the following Sunday I have my Pot Luck Supper, and then the weekend after that (the one before Christmas) I have my final four day intensive - the Psychic/Spiritual Development Intensive. So I'm sure December is going to go just as fast as the other months. Then comes January. Oh, 2012 is heading here fast.
During my talk on Sunday I suddenly realized I keep saying that I'm complacent and I made the declaration no more complacency for me...then on Tuesday night again I was able to remind myself to "think big". So when I do my goal setting for 2012, I'm really putting in some 'big ideas'. Always go for the potential. After all, its not up to us to know how things come into being it is up to us to know they will, so I'm going to 'think outside the box' which is my life right now. Just a thought, that you do that too.
Life is exciting!!!
Have fun planning for your Christmas!

Small Decisions Affect My Day!

Yesterday was an interesting day for me. After battling my cough/cold I was feeling better, but not great. The day turned out to be gray and raining, so I decided to drive to Kelowna and catch two movies which were not on locally.
So off I went, leaving with enough time to stop at a bank and deposit some checks which needed to be put into my account. Usually when going north, I use the bank at West Bank (or West Kelowna as it is now known - hard to break the habit of calling it West Bank) but when I got there it was raining. Knowing that I would get damp just getting out of my car, I decided to proceed onto Kelowna and the bank there.
I arrived at where the bank is and walked into the bank, and here is where a second decision was made. Do I use the machines in the foyer, or go on into the bank. Quickly I looked at the line up at the machines and inside the bank and decided it would be quicker to do it inside the bank (unusual as that may be) and I walked in.
As I walked in a girl walked in just before me. She decided to go around the walkway, whereas (knowing I wanted to go and get to my movie) I cut across and stood in front of her. Almost immediately the window in front of me opened up. I was going to walk up to the window but something said no wait....lucky thing. Next thing I know people are coming from the back waving papers, talking behind the counter and everything comes to a standstill, and then they lock the doors I had just walked in and it is announced that they had just been robbed. Well we were all in shock. We did not hear a thing, did not see a thing, although two of the tellers (especially the one who served him - yes it was a him - but I did not see him, even though we must have passed somehow) had a good description. It was the window which opened up right before me. Eventually they were going to check the counter for finger prints. So luckily I did not go up and place my purse on the counter (which I would normally have done).
Well now we are in lockdown - waiting for the police. I'm thinking, "what am I doing here?" I could have gone to the machine and I would have been long on my way. It seemed to take forever for the police to come, the staff provided seats for those of us in the bank and we waited while person after person (I could not believe how many people came to the doors of the bank) were turned away.
When the policeman arrived, he advised us that there had been another bank robbery five minutes away just before 'ours' had been reported.  Soon another policeman arrives and then another five minutes and the third (a female officer) arrives.
All this time and I'm thinking two things, I'm going to miss my movie and why am I really here. I had made three distinct decisions to be in this place at this time at this time, so why. I looked around the others, was there a reason, I could not find one, could not 'feel' one. I was just there.
Finally, I said to one of the policemen who had come out of the back office "how long are we going to be here" and when he replied, "I'm just going to speak to you now" I told him "I did not see anything, I could not tell you if it was a man or woman" and he said "you can go". Music to my eyes. Walked out, got back in my car, drove to the movie house bought my tickets and sat in the theatre just as the feature was going to begin. What an interesting event.
On my way back to Penticton I was thinking about it, as to what was the reason I was there, when it dawned on me. Today I'm speaking on Past Lives in which I talk about how important Past Lives are to our decisions. But I truly did not have any practical thing to use as how decisions affect us. Now I have one. So this am, I will be speaking on my experiences and then linking it to Past Lives.  In a few days, I'm trusting you will be able to listen to the talk at http://www.normacowie.com/lectures I have to record it and then have my web master post it.
I trust you will have a good day and notice the small decisions you make, usually they don't take you into a bank where a bank robbery has just occurred.
Oh yes, my other blog http://www.moviereviewswithnormacowie.blogspot.com will have the movie reviews which I will be doing right after this before heading off to speak.
Enjoy!
Norma.

Settling in back Home

I cannot believe it has been as long as it has since I last posted. Boy does time travel by fast when you are busy. As last reported, I got home with my new car and finally on Friday all the paper work was finally completed and I felt relaxed about the whole process. It had to have a few more fix ups done on it, and then some paperwork needed completing which took time. Thank goodness for Natalia in Calgary, who made sure it all came through just fine. So now my Jenny and me will get along just fine - especially as her trunk takes all my stuff for the Market on Saturdays (and the expos when the time comes for those).
Last Monday I arrived back from a weekend in Regina taking Level 2 of the Yuen Method. I was also visiting with my friend Joyce who I had not seen for nearly three years, so it was great in both directions. Joyce and I went and saw two movies (reviews coming up) and then Saturday and Sunday was spent in class which taxed my brain more than I liked. But Monday came, and I took Joyce on a road trip to Moose Jaw for lunch in a Thai Restaurant she liked and it was great and then we went shopping (what woman does not like that) and then I dropped her back home, picked up my bags and took my rental to the airport.
Now the journey becomes interesting. As you are aware, when you pick up a car they charge the day from the time you pick it up and that was 5pm. Although my plane did not leave until 7.40pm, I returned the car for 5pm, walked across the aisle (small airport) to check in saying to the woman behind the counter, "I'm really early". She replies "Good thing, because your plane is 3 hours late, and I'm going to see if I can reroute you". I stand there waiting, and then she says, (after she gets off the phone to report she is sending another person up). "Go up there right now and get on the plane". So I obeyed, went up and walked onto a flight for Calgary. Then I got off the Calgary plane and walked right on to a plane for Vancouver. So instead of waiting 3 hours plus and missing my connection back to Penticton, I spent the waiting time in Vancouver and got back home on time for my dear friend Jeanne to pick me up and deposit me at my home.
Tuesday morning arrived - now Tuesdays are my cleanse day and I don't book too much for myself that day anyway - but I woke up (after not a great sleep) and I just did not want to get out of bed. Now since I have been here in Penticton 3 years I have not had that feeling once. I was so tired, I just did not want to get up. So I took it really easy. Although Jeanne was back at 10.00am, to take me to pick up my car at the garage. We usually walk on Tuesdays but we both agreed not to that day. Thank goodness.
That tiredness has been slowly going through the week. My client load has not been too busy and I have slowly begun to get my house back in order. All the coming and going, and things have not got put away, I was five months behind in my bookkeeping (two months worth has been done now, and the other three months hopefully will be started today) and I'm taking it easy. Not getting myself too tired, going slowly day by day, doing what needs to be done and tackling a bit more before I'm tired again. So watching DVD's and movies help when my body just does not want to move to think.
Today the sun is shining, I feel so much better. This week will see me crossing into the energy line I'm sure.
Two neat things: Last night my son Rob gave me the date I pick up my granddaughter McKayla for three days - the first time she gets to come and stay by herself with me. I have her for three night --- yeah!
Also, I'm reading this most wonderful book which I picked up in the Airport on my way to Regina. Its absolutely phenomenally written SHANTARAM by Gregory David Roberts. I can only read a bit at a time, as his words are like pictures and rich and I seem to only able to assimilate a bit at a time. Its a thick book so I imagine it will take me another week or two to get through it. Today I read on page 632 "I'd lost...my closest friends in the same week, and with them I'd lost the mark on the psychic map that says "you are here". Personality and personal identity are in some ways like co-ordinates on the streetmap drawn by our intersecting relationships. We know who we are and we define what we are by references to the people we love and our reasons for loving them". See what I mean, words placed together like an artist. You have to stop and think about what has just been said after you have read certain thoughts. Although this book is written as a novel its based on his life and what a life ..... wow!
I totally recommend anyone who likes good literature with a phenomenal story read this book. When I've finished I'll probably reread it and truly mark some of the discourses on good and evil and life that are there, written up as discussions between people. Rich stuff. Sometimes you learn more from a novel than you do from anything else.
Well think that's all today....I have my movie reviews to do.
Love
Norma.

Stuck in Calgary

Hi from wonderful Calgary, when I expected to be home. I drove here last Thursday for a Yuen Level 3 workshop. Stayed in a fairly new Sandman Inn where the workshop was taking place. Saw clients every day, everything was absolutely great until Sunday night. But I'm ahead of myself as usual. So lets go back to last week.
Thursday, I got up and said goodbye to Christobelle (who is recovering nicely from her knee replacement surgery) and Mike her husband who have been staying at my place. Went for my walk with Jeanne, went and had a new headlight installed in the car, then left driving north. I remembered this Mexican restaurant in Vernon, and found it, and had a wonderful Avocado and Shrimp Salad for lunch. I mention that because now that I'm the Isagenix Program, with one meal a day, those meals are very important. Then drove on to Salmon Arm, where I visited with Maggie at her Spirit Quest Store. I had to drop off some Tarot books, (Exploring the Patterns of the Tarot) plus firm up my visit there on the 22nd June. I'll be doing some readings and speaking that evening.
From Salmon Arm I drove straight through to Golden, where I had planned to spend the night, back to the motel where the hot tub usually waits for me, oh no, its under maintenance. So no hot tub for me. Up the next morning, make my shake and off to Calgary.
The Calgary Sandman Inn said they did not want you in before 4pm, the time my first clients were scheduled to come in. I was in Calgary mid day......so decided I will go to the movies, and I did. Had to wait a wee while, bought a protein shake for lunch (getting used to my program) and then went and saw ROBIN HOOD!!! I loved it, the movie review is following. When the movie was over I rushed to my car, drove with intention, got to the hotel, booked in, got settled and then my clients arrived. Great day! Felt wonderful!.
Saturday up, shake drink, down for 8.30 to the room, and the weekend began. All was well, had two clients that evening and then rested until Sunday, up for 8.30 and another day of learning and two clients. There is a lot to process in the classes, but the classmates were wonderful and had a great day. As I had lunch (a wonderful spinach salad with chicken) I had my shake and thought, I want to go see another movie. The front desk clerk helped by looking up the movies, and gave me a map and time of when the movie LETTER FROM JULIET was on.
I had a drive around as I had some time to spare, the sun was beginning to set when I finally pulled into the spot and headed to the movie. 11.00pm I come out of the movie, get into the car start it, and then when I went to put it into gear ---- the gear shift just came all the way back. No gears......no going anywhere. After panicking for a minute (well maybe two) I got out my BCAA card and phoned the 1 800 number and 1/2 hour later a wonderful angel in the shape of a young man driving a tow truck arrived. He tried for quite a while to see if he could get it working -- no go -- so ended up taking the car to a garage her recommended, driving me back to the hotel and even leaving me with his home number in case I needed a lift the following afternoon to pick up my car. How nice to know there are wonderful young men out there.
Next day, phoned the garage.....bad news.....my transmission is 'shot'. Need a new transmission, not cheap, but tell them to go ahead. After all I have to get back home, it has my tables, chairs and banners in it. Its not something I can just walk away from.
The mechanic says 'it will be about two days'. I ask "is this day one?". He says (hopefully correct) you will be on the road home Wednesday (hopefully again in the am). Oh my....now what to do. I'm staying at a fairly pricey hotel, I don't have a vehicle to get around and I know my friend Cecelia is out of town.
Ah!!! Deanne....I'll phone her. So at 10.45 (check out time is 11am) I phone her - not home, try her cell, she answers. She tells me later it was a miracle she answered, as she was square dancing and it was the break and she was sitting down with her cell in front of her. I tell her my predicament. She replies immediately (another angel on the planet) I'm busy here till noon then I'll come get you. So I go down, check out and wait in the lobby, watching 'The View" until 12.30 when she arrives and brings me to her place.
So here I am waiting for the phone call to say my car is ready so I can get back to my life. Yesterday I was able to do laundry, because my clothes were packed for the days I expected to be away, relax and go for a walk in the park close by and then Deanne drove me to the bank to ensure I have money to pay these guys (either this afternoon to tomorrow).
I was sitting this am thinking how lucky I was this went here in the City, where everything was easily obtained (tow tuck, garage to fix it and Deanne's to stay). This could have happened when I was in the middle of the Rockies where there is no cell reception. I had no warning of this, it just went. So how does that metaphysically relate. Transmission is going, you put the car into gear and it goes. Well I have been going flat stick (my last post was titled busy as a bee) but the transmission goes backwards as well as forwards). This car has had a light out, a new dent in the trunk and now the transmission. If the car is me, then I have to take a good look at the pace I'm keeping - at least that is what I'm thinking -- comments are welcome.
I think also it could be saying a new 'gear' is being made ready. I am studying the Yuen Method, it was made a huge difference to my work and my client base is getting busier.....I knew when the car light, another event, and then the dent in the trunk happened I needed to look inside, but thought I had - obviously not. So some inner contemplation will be in order over the next few days - tarot cards - will be out for sure. Personally, I needed to get another car....I was going to look at one when I got home, but now my deposit is going for the transmission, so another miracle will need to be created.
So here I am stuck in Calgary until my car is fixed (so its an enforced rest) and then home to get ready for the long weekend (Bridget is coming to visit - always busy then) when I'm having my first Saturday at the local market and then next Thursday I fly to Regina for another weekend course. I was looking forward to June when it will be more settled, home to work in the garden, get some painting done and finally get to the bookkeeping.
Hope your week was not as exciting as mine has turned out to be.
Love
Norma.

Movie Reviews

Hi: its Sunday night and I have just come from from seeing George Clooney's new movie "Men who Stare at Goats". As I am often asked for my opinion on movies I have seen and in the last couple of weeks I have seen quite a few I thought I would take this opportunity to share what I have seen and what I thought of them.
I will begin with my visit to Vancouver where I managed to see three movies while I was in the 'big town'. First one was "Whip It". This is Drew Barrymore's directorial debut with Canadian's own Ellen Page. I enjoyed this movie. It was humanistic, fun, plus taught me a lot about roller Derby's, of which I knew nothing. Anyway, how a young girl follows her dream and overcomes her mother and stero-typing. The best part, I thought, is when she stands up to a boyfriend who does not meet her expectations. This is a good role model for young girls even if it is only a short short scene.
The next movie I saw was "The Vampire Apprentice". I got to see this mainly because it was on my list and the timing was right. I only had a few hours to see a movie inbetween being here and going there. I believe it is from a book, but the way it was filmed it could have been from a comic. The most frustrating part was it did not feel complete, its like where is the next installment. It (the movie) is apparently made of up the first of three books of ??. Anyway I'm wondering if they are going to do the others, or is it like the Golden Compass and somehow drops out of sight. Back to the movie itself. Bright colors versus dark - after all its about strange people and vampires. (Aren't you getting a bit tired of all the vampire stuff coming out - I am). Anyway, the story line is interesting and definitely has a good versus evil theme. Would I recommend it and say you have to see it - no. But it does have some entertainment value.
Next movie was "The Couples Retreat". I'm sure you have heard of this one as there have been lots of advertising for it. I had resisted seeing it here in Penticton, but my friend Beverly and I decided that we wanted to see that one (not too much else to choose from that weekend). Well, it was worth it. Much to my surprise I laughed and laughed. I'm not a big Vince Vaughn fan, but this movie was definitely worth a visit. It was right on about couples and what they can encounter and although some of it was a bit 'out there', the scenery (filmed in Bora Bora) was worth it alone. Beautiful colors in the water and land. Worth catching if you have not seen it yet.
Back home and Friday night went to see "This is It" with Michael Jackson. If you are a Michael Jackson fan or not, but love the rock beat music and his old hits, then this is a must. I'm thinking I may have to see it again. Loved it. The music plus seeing Michael, showing the producer side of him is worth seeing. I can only be in awe if this is how he sings in rehearsal, how wonderful the real show would have been. Highly recommend it to people who love the rock sound.
Then today (afternoon show) I went to see "Men who Stare at Goats". I must say I'm glad I saw it, for someone who has been reading books on distant viewing and of course is psychic loved the inside jokes, and how the psyche was displayed. I had many laughs (always good for the soul). Is there a lot of depth or value to the movie, I really can't say yes, but for entertainment and fun with some real truths this fits the bill. Definitely a movie to consider if you are in the 'psychic' realm. I do think it is good to laugh at ourselves sometimes. What I loved the most though is how they referred themselves as "the Jedi" and when George Clooney tells Ewen McGregor that he is a Jedi I totally cracked up. Several times I laughed because of McGregor's role in the Star Wars movies. Anyway, a nice way to put in two hours this afternoon. I still feel warm and chuckly inside.
This is my review of my latest adventures in the movies. Now I'm back in Penticton with only four movie theatres - poor me - and no afternoon shows except on the weekends when I'm usually busy, I will let you know what I think next time around......there are a few coming up I want to catch.
Blessings
Norma.

movie update

Last night I went and watched the last movie of the big four which were released the last few weeks. Terminator: Salvation, which I enjoyed, but do not need to go see it again. I thought the introduction of the human terminator who had a heart was a great idea and some of the stunts were pretty terrific.
My favorite of them all though is Star Trek - which I'm going to see again on Thursday. I give this one 4 stars. It moves quickly and although I have one friend who said shes not interested in seeing it because shes not a Trekkie, I don't think you need to be to enjoy this movie. Its done wonderfuly well.
Next I would place: Xmen: Wolverine 3 1/2 stars. This is well done, keeps moving well, and although I got a bit lost as who died and who lived at the end, I enjoyed it.
Then would come Terminator: Salvation 3 stars. As above, thought it was well done. Mind you I have always been a Christian Bale fan (especially since Batman Begins). He is definately a 'method' actor who truly gets into his part, whatever it is.
Finally rounding out the four is Angels and Demons only 2 1/2 stars. Something was missing in this movie. I could not quite put my finger on it. I had read the book several years ago so did not remember the whole story, but perhaps it was that the woman lead and Tom Hanks did not seem to have chemistry or what. But even though it was well done, as I've said something was missing.
Now, not sure when I will get back to the movies (except for Thursday night when I will once more sit through the dynamic Star Trek) it has been one way of recuperating and giving myself a treat (I do believe in treats). As the TV schedule is terrible now .... I am back to sitting outside with a book enjoying the sun.
Enjoy your time at the movies.
Norma.

Home Again!!

I've been home for a couple of days now and how wonderful it feels to be in my own bed and look out at the aspen beyond my bedroom window. I'm still unpacking though, and I'm sure it will take me a couple of more days to get it all sorted. In the meantime, I'm having to get ready for another furniture change in my living room as another chesterfield and chair arrive, plus making the small room (which was a bedroom) into a consulting / reading room and also ensure everything is ready for the Intensive class beginning Friday night. Ah, back into the regular life.
It was great to see the sun on Tuesday and feel the heat in the sun for the first time, and then it was back to regular weather. We even had a snow shower this morning. Then the sun came, and now its all cloudy again and the temperature is dropping.
A couple of things I had forgotten to mention which I thought some of you may enjoy. First one is how a dream made me remember to put in my passport. As I'm sure you are aware traveling by air these days means that you have to show identification. I was so busy getting ready for the different aspects of my trip away. Vancouver - chiropractor and day with my daughter Friday, readings Saturday, Church speaking Sunday, teaching to Yvette Eastman's reflexology class Monday, flying Tuesday to Edmonton, Group Readings Tuesday & Wednesday nights, Thursday shopping day, Expo Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Flying home Monday. I was so filled with details about what I needed, what to pack (clothes in particular) etc. and then I had a dream about going to the airport and leaving my ticket behind. When I awoke I realized I had forgotten about my passport which I would need. Thank goodness for dreams.
Also during the time away I saw three movies. People who know me know I love movies.
The first one I saw was Race to Witch Mountain with 'The Rock'. I must say I enjoyed it. Its a kids movie, but hey I'm a bit kid and thought it was well done. Entertainment for sure. Then I saw The Reader. I had not gone to see it before, but a long story short I ended up watching it and was amazed at how wonderfully acted and what a great movie it is. I was moved. I think I did not want to see it originally because I knew an older woman seduced this young man. In the movie it was done with such respect and I did not feel uncomfortable about it once. Kate Winslett definitely deserved the Oscar for that performance. Then while in Edmonton I went to see Knowing. Well that's one be on the end of the seat movie. The topic ended up being a bit different from what I expected....my friend and I both agreed we enjoyed it, but it was an adrenal drain. I came away quite exhausted. Nicolas Cage was his usual self.
Also reporting on Wednesday my radio internet program went through just fine. Thank goodness when I look ahead I see I will be here on Wednesdays. Also changed the name to Norma Cowie's Tarot World, when I realized I am speaking about what I think and perceive. Remember to tune in on Wednesdays or listen through the archives.
You all have a good day, I'm off for lunch - sushi!
Blessings
Norma.
